EYRE LLEW: The Story So Far
Since their inception in 2014, Nottingham’s ambient-rock trio Eyre Llew has emerged as a transformative force in the music landscape, enchanting audiences with their evocative soundscapes and visceral performances. Their journey has taken them across 20 countries, building a devoted following and creating unforgettable experiences—until the pandemic brought the world to a standstill in 2020.
The band reached a significant pinnacle in 2019, captivating crowds on the iconic John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival, solidifying their status as a must-see act. Their relentless touring through Europe and Asia laid the groundwork for a series of sell-out shows in the UK, Taiwan, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, South Korea, Austria, Japan, and Singapore, showcasing their magnetic presence and artistic depth.
Eyre Llew’s innovative spirit was recognized just before lockdown, as they garnered multiple nominations at the Unsigned Music Awards during The Great Escape, including Best Live Rock Act, Best Album, and Best Video. Their debut album, Atelo, soared to #24 in Drowned in Sound’s Top 100 Albums of 2017 and received widespread acclaim from influential outlets, including Kerrang!, BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show, and Louder Than War. Chris Hawkins of BBC Radio 6 Music aptly dubbed them “Britain’s answer to Sigur Rós,” a testament to their ethereal sound and profound emotional resonance.
With a staggering repertoire of over 300 independently booked shows and festivals, Eyre Llew has left an indelible mark on the music scene. Emerging from the isolation of the Yorkshire Moors and their home studio, they channeled the lessons of lockdown into crafting their highly anticipated second album, which promises to be their most ambitious work yet. In 2024, they took to the stage once more, unveiling new music to rapturous crowds across the UK and Europe, achieving numerous sell-outs and earning rave reviews.
The band has received glowing accolades for their live performances, with Kerrang! praising their ability to leave audiences "absolutely breathless." Bristol Street Live hailed them as “one of the most innovative, audacious, and downright enthralling live bands on the circuit.” Gigwise heralds them as "one of the most exciting bands in the UK right now," a fitting tribute to their ever-evolving artistry.
Eyre Llew is not just a band; they are a sonic experience - a journey that transcends the ordinary and invites listeners into a world of profound beauty and creativity. Don’t miss the chance to witness their magic firsthand.
PRESS / REVIEWS
“They have rendered me absolutely breathless. This is a beautiful band…” - Alex Baker, Kerrang!
“They're #24 in our Top 100 albums of 2017… One’s to watch… A leftfield extravaganza of the highest quality.” - Drowned In Sound
“Arguably one of the most exciting bands in the UK right now.” - Gigwise
“This was the loudest gig I have attended in about a decade, but never was it an abrasive or confrontational sound, more like standing amidst a choir during a hurricane… As the song abruptly ended, with Heaton’s vocal refrain left to drift away triumphantly, the audience were left to pick their brains off the back wall having just been mind blown for 45 minutes.” - Number 9 Reviews
“They have taken their fans on a journey before even setting foot on stage.” - The Korean Times
“The moment they took the stage, the room fell into an anticipatory hush. Eyre Llew’s eclectic sound washed over the audience, crafting an atmosphere akin to being at a festival, with their instruments beckoning to our ears, calling out with an irresistible pull. Their music is visceral - hitting you square in the chest, awakening emotions you weren’t even aware were there. Eyre Llew continue to amaze with their emotive, atmospheric sound, and with a new album on the horizon, they’re a band you definitely want to continue to keep your eye on.” - Notts Rocks
“Among all the talents that took turn to shine on stage, there’s this one band from Britain, Eyre Llew, that came to blow everybody’s mind…” - AsiaLive365
“They are one of our city’s finest musical exports and now, after some time away, ambient rock outfit Eyre Llew are officially back… Their energy is one that simply can’t be described adequately enough, with walls of towering, atmospheric guitars and Sam Heaton’s stunning, ethereal vocals lifting everyone in The Bodega loft away to what feels like another dimension. The talent of the musicians on stage is just mind-blowing at times… From start to finish, this show was just an absolute joy, one that had me on Cloud 9 still days afterwards. From fun and energetic support to jaw-droppingly beautiful and cathartic musicianship, it was a Saturday night that made me proud to be a Notts local. Welcome back Eyre Llew, it’s been too long!” - Leftlion
“A genre defying band… Their songs are so well sculptured, they’re quite audacious in the way they’re put together; they take you on a journey” - Dean Jackson, BBC Introducing
“Emotionally charged, atmospheric ambient soundscapes, incredible ambient post-rock” - Fred Perry Subculture
“What’s also apparent - particularly for those of us who’ve witnessed their comeback shows - is how quickly those new songs have emerged as live favourites despite none having been released thus far… Given the added dimension messrs Illingworth and Clark bring to the band, both songs are blessed with a new - and at times raging - dynamic that sets them apart from the band’s earlier works… With the new record hopefully set to land in the early part of next year 2025 looks set to be a pivotal twelve months for Eyre Llew.” - Under The Radar
“It’s not an album where you’ll be sprawled out on the bed thinking “I’m listening to the new record by Eyre Llew”, for you’re not really even THERE while it plays. It does a fantastic job of transporting you to another place, a better place, and if ever there was a time that such a thing were needed, it’s now. And I’m grateful, I really am. You should be too; it’s quite simply beautiful.“ 9/10 - God Is In The TV Zine
“The album – the culmination of a painstaking and, sometimes, troublesome creative process that put three Nottingham musicians through two-and-a-half years of risk-taking, highs and lows – is a labour of love. It represents passion, hard work and belief you will find a way” - GoldFlakePaint“Eyre Llew… deal a sonorous, mood-swing, ambient that is clouds of dark guitar noise and rumbling soundtrack drums. It’s powerful and arresting and fills the room with billowing clouds of melancholic beauty…. a surprise joy. Sigur Ros meets Mogwai slow-core and really pleasant stuff too.” - Louder Than War
“Positively wonderful...” - The 405
“Blossoming into something truly remarkable… They can leave you breathless in an instant.” - Get Into This
“Following the release of their debut album ‘Atelo’ back in 2017, Eyre Llew cemented themselves as one of the most prominent acts in ambient-rock. Now the Nottingham group return…” - Bodega, Nottingham
“If pure bliss had a sound, it would come in form of Eyre Llew. The eclectic three piece from Nottingham have received copious amounts of high praise and I am here to add my name to the list.” - Strathclyde Telegraph
"After their success with debut album 'Atelo', Eyre Llew have returned - though in a slightly different way, evermore keeping fans on their toes. They've collaborated with Korean shoegaze band In The Endless Zanhyang We Are for a joint EP entitled 'Carrier'. If there was ever a band that deserve to be called hard-working, it's these guys. What is astounding is not only the noise they produce but the different sounds that they combine together. I mean, there is only three of them and at times you get a sense that there must be at least five or six people in this band." - Contact
“…one of the most innovative, audacious and downright enthralling live bands on the circuit.” - Bristol Live Magazine
"Outstanding support.” - Livewire
“This is Leo by Eyre Llew… It’s wicked!” - Daniel P Carter, BBC Radio 1
"Time to get down to the serious stuff and tell you about Nottingham’s best new band in years, Eyre Llew. This trio of two guitarists and a keyboard player were playing only their third gig to a rapt audience at Wollaton Hall." - Neon Filler
"Often we hear artists singing these heartfelt songs but there is something missing; Eyre Llew have found that something, and, like King Midas, everything they touch turns to gold. Eyre Llew are so much more than just an ambient rock band and once you have heard the album you will understand what this statement means." - Contact Music
"This mesmerising, ambient-rock trio reduced people to tears during their Beat The Streets set. With melodies that sound they’ve come straight from an Oscar-winning movie, Eyre Llew has travelled the world and performed in front of thousands of people since their sold-out debut show in May 2015." - Rock City, Nottingham
“It will give you that euphoric feeling of peace, that you’ve been craving for months, in an instant – a musical Xanax without the side effects.” - NUSIC.org
“Our highlight of The Great Escape Festival has to be the intense and ethereal Eyre Llew.” - Outpost Media
"The bombastic Eyre Llew. The immediate, easy comparison is Sigur Ros. It’s a lazy, tired comparison but one that I’m going to make all the same. They make an awe-inspiring noise, as thunderously-loud as it is beautifully eerie. Rescue Rooms is busy and you can tell why – Eyre Llew are destined for good things." - Subba Culthca
"The phenomenal Eyre Llew guys performed on the main stage to a huge crowd!" - AJ Online
"Their emotive performance stood out – you could definitely see the passion they had for their music. They lost themselves to it and gave it their best – and definitely another highlight for me... As soon as they started to play, the crowd grew to hear the melodies." - The Demon
“One of the Nottingham’s most exciting prospects in years.” - Nottingham City Council
